Precarn hands out $1.8M for research projects

The funding was provided to three teams of researchers representing 14 organizations and universities across the country. Contributions in kind will add another $3.3 million to the amount.

The three groups to receive funding include:

Intelligent e-Health Portal: This team is developing an intelligent system to interpret and profile patient data to suggest the ideal course of treatment. Members include Communications and Information Technology Ontario (CITO), Centre of Global eHealth Innovation, Compugen of Richmond Hill, DataGlider of Richmond Hill, Lakeridge Health Corp. of Whitby, Mount Sinai Hospital of Toronto, The Credit Valley Hospital of Mississauga, the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo.

Scheduling the Use of Imaging Satellites: Mixed-Initiative Constraint Reasoner with Satellite Tasking (MICROS): This team is trying to develop a more responsive and efficient system for scheduling tasks on commercial satellites. Project participants include Actenum of Vancouver, MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates of Vancouver and Simon Fraser University in Burnaby.

Acoustic Monitoring for Transportation: This team is developing an intelligent system for using sound waves to monitor and assess the structural integrity of major transportation systems, such as bridges. Team members include TISEC Inc., CN, and University of Québec at Trois-Rivières.
